Why it's best not to teach your kids to read.

My nine year old: Mom, how do thieves take over computers from another location?

Me: Ummm . . . I . . . they . . . uhhh . . . I think they . . .

Nine year old: Because that is how they steal your identity and all your information. (Pause). Without ever even firing a bullet.

Me: Umm . . . I . . . Wait. Who are you again?

My 8 year old was completely shocked when I told him that cell phones didn't exist when I was little. And home computers used to be glorified typewriters with glowing green and black screens. It is amazing to me how different their life experiences will be considering how relatively few years it has been since we were 8/9year olds.

Ugh.....this type of conversations with my kids make my head hurt. Why must they grow up?

sweet. :) at least he's inquisitive (and apparently has a good memory from what he reads.) :)i'm glad cole can't read yet. i'm dealing with his super listening, like last week in church someone said something in their talk about this man who was a smoker, and cole's like "mom, what a smoker?" ah. the joys. :)

Don't ever drive reading children through Las Vegas...it was a mistake. I was wincing the whole time.

Kelly, ay yi yi. I forgot about old Vegas. Last time we drove through, the kids were very small, but I recall thinking that I didn't want them even SEEING the billboards along the freeway . . . much less READING them. Oh Vegas Vegas.

Oh, Nance! I just love your blog! I have, as you may have noticed, been totally out of the bloggy world for a few months, and so I have ever so many comments to make on your blog. I'll just make a few of them right here, how 'bout that? First of all, I love that great picture of Daisy for your header! You are not the least of the good photographers in this family, let me tell you. Something about the nice fresh blue and white color scheme, and the whimsical theme of cute little girl in motion on the swing... it's just perfect. Also, I LOVE the footage of baby Jesse walking, and especially how he throws up his hands and gives 'em a good shaking when he doesn't know how to overcome the obstacle of Penny's books. :) So cute. And mostly, I have to say that Goldie and the blue marker story was so beautiful and tender and poignant and heartbreaking. I just love that sweet, thoughtful, generous Goldie, good little golden Goldie girl with her heart of gold. That little story of her disappointment just really got to me. Those little childhood heartbreaks can be the most painful and memorable. Anyways, love you much! I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy reading your blog, and it is one that I often have to stop and make Ben listen while I read parts aloud so he can laugh with me. Love you!
