Sunday at our house

Well, here we are . . . with our gun. Look at us. It's a Sunday for crying out loud! We never should have left the security of extended family Sunday dinners. What's to become of us? Still, perhaps it isn't so unsabbathy, it is afterall mearly a BB gun. That can't possibly be considered as unwholesome as shooting a rifle, or even a .22 -- just an innocent little BB gun. Plus, as you can see, I am still in my Sunday best and we are only shooting the remains of a broken Sunday dinner plate. Which leads me to how this Sunday evening activity all came about.

I was just about to break out the super-glue to glue back on the broken side of this plate when Mike told me that it wasn't worth saving as it already had another large crack down the middle. This was shocking to me and here is why: Mike is a keeper. No, not a keeper like,"He's a keeper! Don't let go of him!" -- though he certainly is that. But, I was referring to him as a "keeper of things" -- meaning, someone who does not believe in throwing stuff away. It would appear that it was perhaps the opportunity to shoot something up that allowed him to overcome his natural ways. That is why I was so willing to join in, and I cherish this newly acquired information, because I am not a keeper (once again, I don't mean I'm not one you'd want to keep) simply that I do not like to keep "things." I now feel better equipped to deal with this difference in our natures. In the future when I want to throw something out and Mike can't quite part with it, I will simply suggest we shoot it up -- maybe even blow it up (if shooting doesn't tempt him enough). Of course, that still won't allow us to give things to the needy, but it's a start, definitely a start.

sweet! jas and i are laughing - not just at the fact that you're all taking a nice shot from the doorway, but that you plan on offering to "shoot" things -or blow them up - so you don't have to keep them. too great ... i want sunday dinner at your house if this is the dessert! :)

What the!? Shan, Mike has had a million hats during the course of our marriage. How you remembered this bee hat is beyond me because after your comment I had to ask him if he had a bee hat. I'm sooo glad you brought it up because he immediately went and rummaged through all those old hats (no, he's never gotten rid of any of those million hats) until he found it. He even left a comment to thank you for reminding him of this forgotten hat (no chance of me sneaking it to the DI now) -- but then an "error" occurred and he refused to retype his comment.

Funny. In our family, Jon's Dad is well known for having a vengeful nature towards squirrels who mess with bird feeders. BB gun at the ready, the grandkids know not to mess with the birdfeeder . . . . or else. JK - though, I should say - neighbor cats don't come 'round too much either. Dum, duh, dum, dum, DUMMMM!

Well, I just hope he feels comfortable shooting the little critters on Sunday. Somehow that would make me feel much better about a little plate shootin'

you can tell mike "you're welcome". i don't know how i remember the hat with the bee. for some reason i just remember seeing it and thinking, i like that hat, it looks very well-worn. and then it reminded me of a quote from lonesome dove when they are talking about danny glover's hat and they say, "he's not one to give up on piece of apparel just because its seen a little wear."

These pictures are reminiscent of The Christmas Story. Did anyone lose an eye? BB guns are no good- my brother got shot in the head once when he was taunting a neighbor girl (Robert, not Gerald). Also when I was growing up, every few years the back windows of our house seemed to get shot out. Just make sure you are only shooting broken household items and not your neighbors. Liz

hmm, I want to show Greg this post, but I am afraid it will give him some ideas. But then again he seems to be sort of a "keeper" as well, so maybe it would turn out to be a good thing.

Hmmm...I wonder if your mom, the keeper, would fall for this shooting things up and whatnot? I LOVE to throw stuff out in any way , shaper, or form...as long as it gets the crap out of my house! I'm SOOOO over stuff!
I love your family...I love my little simpletons! Do you remember something about that statement? Something about being at Pineview and I said something like I loved little Hebe and Boo because they were little simpletons and eating cheetos? I don't know.

I don't know if I remember that or not though it seems sort of vaguely familiar. Either way I like it since I think of simpleton as meaning -- someone who is not very bright. I suppose it could be just simple folk, but either way . . . I suppose it describes us. Heehee.

It's pretty freakin' sweet that you are still wearing your skirt. Even though it may be just a bb gun, you look rather lethal like you're aiming to kill that old dinner plate. Show it who's boss. Make an exmaple of it and so forth. I have also turned into "not a keeper" which is strange, because I used to be a keeper. And by that, I don't mean I was a keeper of bees, but rather a keeper of things. Gotta love the Sunday traditions.

Whatever, I know you are a keeper of bees. You love them.
Actually, truth be known, that is another thing my husband has kept -- bees.
