Back to School and Cement Pipes

And then, just like that, pencils and glue sticks were already purchased, new folders and back to school shirts were chosen, and the kids were standing on the front porch for their back-to-school-morning photo. Then Mike was loading them into the van and they were driving off with windows rolled down so the younger kids and I could shout our goodbyes to them for as long as they might hear us. In my head I kept shouting those little goodbyes for the rest of the day.

(Penny will start this year as well. Kindergarten just starts a week later.)

That evening I took the older three with me to go check out some big cement pipes I’d been eyeing. I find that, ever since getting my camera, I notice things I simply would have driven obliviously past before – like big cement pipes. Usually the kids aren’t too hip on letting me go take their pictures somewhere, but it ended up being me who was ready to leave first this time. It turns out giant cement pipes are just begging to be played in and on and around. Even Abe kept saying, “Thanks for taking us, Mom! That was fun!” and ever since seeing the pictures Penny has been pleading to be taken to the cement “tunnels”.

Nancy! Your pictures are just so amazing!! I'm just so in love with all these pictures, and so jealous (of course in the most loving way possible!) of your great talent. Your kids are so very cute. Wish we were seeing you guys in person.

And don't you think with all your chillens' fiddling about on cement pipes, that you might have to call in Captain Najork and his hired sportsmen to teach them a lesson? :D

Haha! That made me so happy for some reason, Kristen. Yes, yes, indeed they need to have a lesson from Captain Najork!! Of course . . . that might also mean they will need to head off afterwards to stay with their Aunt Bundle Joy Cozy Sweet -- who would probably be you.

And thanks for the compliments on my pictures. That has become one of the most satisfying kind of compliments I can receive. I wish you and Ashley and Shan were all close and you got a nice camera and we could all go take our kids on photo shoots and share tips and chat . . . and then I could call you and have you walk me through any editing steps I might want to try since the software part of things which boggles my mind would be a piece of cake for you. Woudn't that be a fun thing to share together??

Love these pictures with the pipes! Also, why would you pay to take your kids to someplace like Lagoon when they will have more fun with some pipes? ;)

Haha! I know, Londi! And you'll see it sooner than you think. Probably when Roman is turning one and you have some darling presents for him and all he will want to do is play with the wrapping paper or box it came in.
