The Telephone

If you ever need a listening ear, give me a call. I'm really really good at phone conversations because my kids never ever begin acting insanely the minute I get on the phone -- ever. Just to show what I'm talking about, I thought I'd copy and paste my sister Megan's email she sent me Saturday night.

. . . But seriously I just wanted to thank you now for that awesome conversation we had today. It totally rocked.

Me- Hello?
You- What are you up to?
Me- Im just coming home from.....
You- Hold on......OK so what are you doing?
Me- O I am just coming home from Pocetello we had to go get...
You- Hold on.............................. Ok so I have to tell you that Ashley's baby is the cutest thing in the universe! he is the most perfect baby and so cute and round, like if I tuck his legs in he fits into a cute egg shape.
Me- O I know I need to come down see him some how. If only I .......
You- HOLD ON...... OK well I will talk to you later. Love ya.
Me- Ok love you.

CLICK.

That just reminded me of the last time my friend Jessica called. She left me a message that went something like this, "I don't know why you won't answer your phone and talk to me. You think just because you have FIVE kids, you don't have time to answer your phone?" And then, presumably at the realization that I have five small kids, she laughed and laughed and laughed some more -- not with me, mind you, but at me.

Anyway, I think I'll go call both those girls right now -- because a simple phone conversation with me will be punishment enough for their mockery!

O I am so so mean. I do love having some of the lime light on your blog here. hee hee But I have five kids too so I guess I shouldn't be talking to much smack.

Oh, after reading this and writing what I just wrote, I think you will hate me. Because I don't have 5 kids. Because I have time to talk on the phone. And because I don't have snow on the ground to fall in when carrying a new born baby. Sorry.

I doesn't get any better! I don't know what it is about the phone and kids (and husbands) not paying a bit of attention to you until you are talking to someone else. I'll even walk out of the room and they follow me! I'm just grateful for cordless phones. I just need a hands free headset now and maybe they won't notice I'm on the phone.

Nancy - speaking of anatomy on my blog, did you happen to notice that the drumstick was a BOY drumstick?

the truth is, that is why we blog, isn't it? we connect with each other in some way with out having our thoughts so obviously interrupted every two seconds? and at least people call you. all my friends (and sisters apparently) have given up on me

that is so funny ... and it's true. my kids can be totally calm and quiet and then as soon as i pick up the phone it's like something possesses them. ah ... joy of motherhood with little kids. :)

Talking on the phone as a parent is a fine art. :) It works better if you have a walk in closet with a lock on it. (I'm just waiting for the day someone comes to door and my kids tell the neighbor that I am in the closet.)
