Tinkering

I felt like such an amazing mom today. Let me tell you why: I was trying to find the few Tinkertoys that I'd seen lying out earlier -- so I could put them with the others, but only one of the three could be found. So I thought to myself, "Where would I be if I were a Tinkertoy . . . and I lived in the same house as little Mr. Jesse Frank?" Then, almost immediately I thought, "I'd probably be in the garbage disposal." And indeed, that's where they both were. Of course, maybe I'm not so amazing. I've also been thinking for some time now, "Where would I be if I were a TV remote and lived in the same house as Jesse?" And I've checked the heater vents AND the fridge AND the garbage disposal AND my makeup drawer -- all to no avail. BUT, speaking of Tinkertoys. The evening before my garbage disposal find, I found myself prying peas from dinner out of the little circles in the round Tinkertoys. They fit there quite nicely so I could see why it might seem a logical place for someone to have put them. All the same, I thought, "This is one of those things that never really occurred to me that I might be doing when I thought about my life once I was married and had kids."

And all of that makes me think that it is interesting how many of my recent thoughts have revolved around Tinkertoys. And one wonders why I sometimes don't recall a whole lot of information from my Chemistry and Biology days. Tinkertoys are pretty cool though. Both Penny and Jesse were gratifyingly appreciative of my skills when I built them the old Tinkertoy rattle (well, we just call it a shaker around here -- it's not really a rattle) and swing set last night. I'm not saying I'm the greatest Tinkertoy builder ever . . . necessarily . . . I'm just telling it like it was: they were greatly impressed.

Maybe I should look in the garbage disposal for all of our missing Wii games.

What about Erector sets? Did you have those too? I played with Tinkertoys but Troy played with Erector sets and being part of Team 'Little Girls', I was not allowed to play with said Erector set. NOt that I did't like the Tinkertoy, but Erector sets seem so forbidden that I am instantly drawn to wanting one to tinker on those, even now, 30-40 years later.

And boo to the peas in the Tinker holes......

Although it may seem sad, that is a toy we have always left up to grandma to have available. So there is not much tinkering going on around here. We do find lots of Legos around. By the way how did Little Jesse reach the disposal? Or does he simply throw things over the edge of the sink never being quite aware of where they will end up? Maybe he thought they needed a good wash in the sink. so in actuality he was just helping you out.

But seriously I was laughing and Enrique asked me what i was laughing about it was the peas in the tinkertoys and that you are now channelling Jesse's toys to find them!!

so funny. all this post reminded me of was your older post about the garbage disposal, and not wanting to put your hand in there (because i have the same phobia). but i'm glad you found them ... funny, funny. i'm glad lexie hasn't discovered the disposal yet.
(and maybe i should invest in some tinkertoys. :))

May I just say that I absolutely love your new header image?! Did you photoshop up its loveliness because the colors and crispness are divine!!! Really - beautiful Nanc!

Marz, you MAY say that. I am so sad because I bought photoshop elements, but I am so non-computer savvy that I really don't know how to do anything besides the basic things I could have done in any free program -- crop, increase brightness or saturation . . . that's about it. I did increase the saturation and contrast on that one. I would love to learn how to really edit things because I see such cool stuff that people who know what they are doing can do with photos!! It really intimidates me though . . .

Liz, that darn Jesse, he just drags a chair to the sink and leans on in. He has been our into everything child for sure!

Jami, yes, the disposal STILL horrifies me . . . which is why it is disturbing that Jesse loves to put things in it so very much. I have ground up a lot of things . . . including, oddly, a bunch of those plastic medicine dropper things. Jesse loves to put those in there. I know I should always check first . . . but you know . . . its scary to.

Tia. No. No erector sets. I feel cheated.
