I know blogs must have been around for some time because I rememeber hearing something or other about them long ago and thinking how creepy and bizarre they sounded. (The name still sounds creepy). But, for some reason, the blog has taken off lately (as far as I can tell). I only really started hearing of people I actually knew doing blogs in about January, but since then, it seems that nearly every person I know has their own special little blog. I guess it is fun for us all to feel like someone (other than the imaginary audience in our head) is interested in our lives . . . and for some reason, we really all do seem to be. It has been such a fun way to get a little feed back on my own thoughts, keep up on family and friends, reconnect with old friends, and even form new connections with those who (whom?) I am somehow connected to through family or friends. It sort of feels like we have all formed this little meeting place where we can have mom talk, spiritual talk, or a little humor -- with out having to actually meet (not that meeting wouldn't be nice, but you know . . .).
Anyway, after talking to a friend at church the other day about different people in the ward who also have blogs, I informed Mike that practically everyone in the ward now has a blog. Mike told me this was great -- he could just see the increase in home teaching percentages: "Sure I did my home teaching this month. I checked each of their blogs and left a comment." I'm glad he's finally seeing the beauty of the blog.

This blog thing is a little crazy, but I am glad to have a little window into your life and see what you are up to (as well as your sister's Megan and Shannon). Your house was the "celestial kingdom" in high school and I am glad to have a little piece of that back. I need to get more people in my ward started on the craze. Maybe then Jay would be able to use it for his home teaching too :)

there definitely is a blog craze going on ... :) but i'm with you, it has been so fun to connect with people - and let them "see" us in a way that maybe they wouldn't have otherwise (hello! like living behind you, i never knew you liked to shoot things on the sabbath! it's probably good i didn't!) ... home teaching/visiting teaching via blog ... interesting idea. :)
Oh that Mike makes me laugh, but he IS on to something.
I have loved loved loved my little place in this big blogging world. I feel like I actually know what is going on in people's lives and it's so nice that way. Before, I felt like I was always in the dark about news or whatever and then Sweets would come home and tell me that one of my sister-in-laws had just had their baby the night before when I didn't even know they were pregnant in the 1st place!
I totally agree with you, it has gone a little haywire around here as well. It is great, fun to catch up like you said. That is all too funny about the home teaching-visiting teaching for that matter, I think I might have even heard that before.
I had a blog back in 2004 before anyone even knew about them, but I wrote in it twice and decided I was done. In this case, I prefer to be a reader, rather than a writer.
I'm pretty sure they ladies in our ward already do their VT in the way that Mike has suggested home teaching should now be done.
Jess, I can't believe you had a blog back in 2004!! See, I knew they'd been out there awhile . . . so I wonder all the more why they have suddenly become the craze of all Mormon wives or mothers?? Perhaps you'd like blogging better now with fun people like me commenting on your every post . . . or what if you did a poetry blog where we could read and comment on your poems!! Ohhh, that'd be cool.
Jami, yes, you knew nothing about the shooting and I had no idea that you would have been just as thrilled as Mike would have been had we up and put cattle in our back pasture! These blogs are great.
P, I love and think it is so cool that our family now is so crazy we almost don't even know when anyone has a baby anymore. I like to try and quiz Mike once in awhile to see if he can actually name all the neices and nephews . . . he usually can't.
Also, just wanted to make sure you all know we were joking about the home teaching method . . . just in case you thought we were nuts. Although, I am fond of dropping by a treat when the real visit doesn't pan out . . . but who doesn't want a treat?
That is so funny about the home teaching thing because I have an inactive sister that is never home and i don't have her phone number, only her address. so after stopping by about 10 times and never finding her, i left a note asking her to please e-mail me, thinking that maybe it would be easier for her to do than to call a stranger. I then thought, how great it would be to just do my visiting teaching that way. "Yes, i talked to her--well we instant messaged--but still...
And yeah, this is crazy blogging, but i love it. I think writing about my days has helped me to appreciate so much more what is going on in the moment and preserving those memories has helped me to do as elder eyring asked us to do two conferences ago when he said that we should ask ourselves each day how the Lord had blessed us and record it. Well, i don't always do that with my blog. But I am trying to do better and I also think that my confidence in myself has grown as i have recorded more. so maybe there is a lot more to the importance of "keeping a record" than one might have first imagined.
What a neat way of seeing it. I love that. And my husband used to tease but now he is always checking it. And excited to see what post I have put on there. Plus Reed likes to read my blog and tell us about it. I am so glad you got me going. What a neat things these are. Love ya sis.
Occassionally after posting a comment and blaming blogger for misspelling/changing or eliminating important words on my comment I will go and look at other comments I have made in the past. So I can marvel at my stupidity or blogger's own little blog haunter. I have concluded that, yes, Nancy, your blog is possessed because I came to this post to check my comment from the other day and it is NOT EVEN HERE!!! And now I can't help but think that something is very wrong with your blog. And it was such a lovely comment about what a wonderful VT I would be if I could VT you and then I left you a spiritual message which was very uplifting and then I proclaimed my pleasure of getting my VT done so early in the month. And it was good. And your blog has a mind of it's own. But I'm sure it has NOTHING to do with the owner - just so you know.
Dang it. I hate haunted blogs!! Well, I like them if they are other peoples, but not my own, mysteriosuly addding and taking things away at its whim. It has probably gotten rid of tons of highly clever posts altogether!!
Hey Fellow Blogger! I finally had a chance to blog today... yeahhhh! I am loving reading your blogs... they're the best. And I love your family. As silly as it sounds, I feel like I know you all better now. And the blog craze is CRAZY, I agree... is it going to die off or get even crazier? We'll see!
