Haunted Dryer?

I do more laundry than you can shake a stick at. Where did that come from -- more than you can shake a stick at? I don't know, but I like it. Anyway, loads and loads of laundry (no pun intended).

So, with all that laundry, I was more insulted than spooked when my dryer turned "haunted" the last few days. You see, I have a little switch on my dryer that you can turn to "signal on" or "signal off" -- you know, depending on whether or not you want to hear a really loud buzzing sound each time your laundry is dry. I do not want to hear that sound, so mine has always been set to off. But a few days ago, out of the blue, my dryer began ignoring my wishes and buzzing when it was done with its job. Why was this insulting? Well, because I felt like my dryer was suggesting that I am a slacker. Perhaps hinting that I ought to be up and folding a little more quickly. "Hey Lazy," the dryer seemed to taunt, "I've done my job of drying now get crackin' on your part. What, can't handle a few clothes to fold?" But I always do manage to get my laundry done at some point (see all those folded clothes on top). It isn't as if the laundry is a casserole that will burn if I don't take it out the minute it is done. It may get a bit wrinkly, but I've come to accept and love wrinkly so that doesn't matter so much, and I find it highly offensive that my dryer thinks that just because he dries the clothes he now has a say in when I do my part.

Then today, I checked that little knob again -- even though I've checked it a few times since the buzzing began, and lo and behold, it was turned to signal ON! SO now I am left to wonder if dryer ever was truly haunted and judgemental or if I have simply gone crazy . . . which sadly would not be a totally implausible option. You leave me alone, dryer!

P.S. Dear Dryer, Please do not get offended and quit drying my clothes. I really like how you do that.

Haunted appliances are creepy, but it least it's your dryer thats haunted and not a blender that just turns on at random. By the way our dryer is haunted too. It beeps when it is finished too. The only problem is it keeps beeping like it is finished, randomly throughout the cycle and then just keeps tumbling around since the clothes aren't truly dry yet. Maybe it is just whining that it wants to be done and it is too tired to want to tumble anymore. So, would you rather have rude dryer that wants you to fold right away or a whiny annoying dryer?

My old dryer used to buzz - hated it - but my new dryer has a lilting little melody which it plays and while I used to hate it, I like it now because the children hum along .... and just like my blog used to be haunted, perhaps your dryer will get over it as well. Because my blog is not nearly as haunted as it used to be. But I think it is because I figured some of those HTML codes and such - which I think were the real problems. Silly evil spirits.

i forgot to appreciate that my new dryer does not buzz but only makes a kind of pleasant little beeping sound when its done, if i want it to.

i'm sick of machines taking over the world and telling us how to run our lives and when to do our laundry.

How how sweet it is to my ears when i hear craziness come from you instead of the usual high intellectual smarty pants stuff. Like: "O I just found out I am above geneous level in aspect of my life" and "make fun of my windows for glasses all you want Meg, they have just made it so I am using 100% of my brain at all times instead of the measley 4% the rest of you peons in the world use!"

o that was "every aspect of my life"

I'm amazed you can hear your dryer beeping. It's so noisy around here I can't hear my own thoughts. My thoughts can be noisy too. Just no hope. I like clean clothes, though. And I like to put them on when they are warm!

oh so funny ... i hate it when my dryer suddenly buzzes and i'm sure i didn't put the buzzer on, because like you, i'm completely fine and dandy with wrinkled clothes. i figure i'll get to it when i get to it ... and yes, it seems to multiply before my eyes. ah. speaking of laundry, maybe i should go put more in. :)

Mine started doing that a week or two ago. Then I busted the Little Jamaican pretending to do laundry, pushing all the buttons.
