Research Shmesearch

Yesterday I read this in the news:

Research from the University of Virginia says you might be getting old sooner than you think. Researchers say our mental abilities begin a downward slide from the age of 27, after reaching their peak just five years earlier.

And all I have to say is: Dear Smarty Pants Researchy People, Next time you find out something like this, keep it to your researchy little selves. What would your mothers think!?

It is like I have always said, some science no one wants to know (like peanuts being legumes, tomatoes not really being vegetables, Pluto not qualifying as a planet, and the fact that when they are looking for "life" on Mars, they are just looking for things like bacteria and not cool green aliens). But, I suppose one could argue that science must be published -- popular or not. I mean not that long ago people were none too happy to hear that the earth was round. And look at us now! Just thrilled as (oh I couldn't think of a good simile), but really thrilled to be able to boat ourselves around all of Earth with not even the tiniest bit of fear about plummeting over the edge.

Still, I think researchers would do best to spend their time studying things that everyone truly wants to know -- like how to cure diseases and how to find Big Foot -- and leave things like the fact that I might not be so smart anymore out of it!

"How to find Big Foot" o that was so good. And you know I saw Old Big Foot in the fifth grade. So there, I will swear by it even on my death bed when they are like "tell the truth about all the lies you have ever said or you won't go to heaven." And I won't deny the Big Foot sighting.
How I love your thoughts....And what good does it do us to know that we are digressing instead of becoming more wise. O that is a good point I make. Thanks you Megan I think it was too. What about wisdom where does that fall on there chart of intelligence??? There argument should be that our brains get a little more saggy with time just like our butts. Or mine. And that's fine because in the wise words of Amy "Our brains are muscles".....hee hee hee...o ho ho ho.....hee hee hee. I hope Amy doesn't read this sheer mockery I am making of her right now!

I think by the time you are 27, you have had enough life experience to pretend not to know as much, so people don't try to get you to do stuff because you know how. *Breathe* The older and smarter I get, the more I deny knowing so I don't get suckered into doing things. I think it's a propaganda to make all the youngies do everything because they still have the energy. :-)

Mugsy - I love the saggy brains theory!

You know, I think your right. I wonder if that little research included variables, like number of children, personalities, amount of sleep......... You know, all that stuff that as a mother you know is affecting your grey matter.

YOu name the day Kelly. I am only waiting for the master (you) to say it is time. Only I also need to know some good annuals I can stick in to make it look fun. I am totally going to bring pics of my planting areas and make you tell me what to buy.

Okay - so, do you want to hear some cool facts I learned in Biology this term? (I know - I'm saying this to the Zoology major - just humor me.)

It takes 2 weeks to a month for you to completely shed and replenish your skin.

Two heart cells - when seperate - beat differently. But when put together - beat the same. I guess two hearts can beat as one! (Awwwww - now, didn't that make my facting facts all worthwhile?)

Love ya!
