Daisy Rocks

Kids are funny. So often all I can do is shake my head and think, "But why?" Take Daisy for example. I have never seen her play with rocks necessarily, or build with rocks, or even do anything particularly interesting with rocks . . . and yet, she and rocks are very connected. The picture above is a picture of the rocks I found IN her bed last night -- they were in a nice pile under her covers. That one might have been my fault as I had told Abe and Daisy to gather a few little rocks earlier in the day when we needed to pretend we were measuring the mass of "gold nuggets" in science. I should have known better than to purposefully direct Daisy to gather rocks. She does plenty of that on her own.

When we were leaving my sister Shannon's house a week or so ago, Daisy nervously hid her hands as I went to buckle her. I knew why -- rocks. I felt a little bad that she would think she had to hide her rocks from me, but seriously; I find rocks in every (I do mean every) load of laundry I do. If you check her pockets at any given moment when she has been outside you are likely to find rocks. When Mike got back from WA he brought the girls these tiny little jewelry like fairies. When I opened the box this week to make sure her fairy was in it I found -- no fairy, but plenty of small rocks. These rocks aren't fancy rocks; they aren't shiny or colorful rocks; they are plain old gray pebbles and stones. As I mentioned, she doesn't seem to have any intention of doing anything particular with them -- like even establishing a special collection. She doesn't notice that they are missing once I have discovered them in the laundry and thrown them back to their beloved natural nature homes. She just can't resist finding them and stashing them secretly all about the house. See? "Why?"

The funny thing is, someday I know I will probably sigh sadly that she has changed her tiny little interests and I am no longer shaking my head at rocks, rocks, and more rocks found in various places through out the entire house.

Dare I ask if you have ever taken her to one of those museum store bins and let her pick out a little expensive bag of a bajillion colored shiny bag of museum store rocks? You should give her a certificate for them for Christmas!

And just so you know, ET likes Rocks too - she steals them from the neighbor's landscaping - they use rocks insteaf of mulch. When I had a landscaper come to talk to me he said "oh you have a down spout right here in your flower bed?" and I said - no those are the neighbor's rocks that my kid stole. He kind of just looked at me like I was nuts. What can I say? Rocks Rock!

That comment made no sense. Sorry. I went to the fabric store and my mind is a bit frazzles.

that is so strange! i opened up addie's cup holder in her booster seat the other day and she had filled it with rocks. lately i have found a ton around her room and tonight i told the kids to come in from dinner and they had made three rows of rocks across the porch for halloween decorations. hm...rocks in the air. i never knew this about daisy but it seems as if maybe deedle is following her footsteps. anyway, i love daisy and its very sad that i haven't seen you for so long when we now live close. what up?
and why is meg going to see you tomorrow? what are you guys trying to dis me for?

Shan, You wish she was making a special trip to see me. She is making a special trip to perfect her special lips. Still, perhaps you ought to shneak away for a visit tonight (I think she's coming at like 8ish?)

My Wild Child went through a stage like that. Now it is gum she is collecting. (Like from my purse, under tables, anywhere, really. Yuck) What I wouldn't do to get the rocks back.

Oh Nancy - rocks are soooo good! My sister had a rock situation . . . only with her - it wasn't rocks. Her 5 year old would stash her avoidable leftovers in various places all over the house. She didn't want to eat her food - so she hid it! Yuck, yuck, yuck! Mold anyone?

PS - Not so bad either - when compared to the fact that Jackson was stashing his poop and pee in the front yard and the garage this week. Now, that's quite the collection, let me tell you! Whew!

Why do you write so well. I love your descriptions. Rocks??? Who would have thought? But yes, you will be sad when she no longer collects them. I remember when Beau used to say Dhost, instead of Ghost. Allison one time helped him work on his "G" sounds and after that I never heard of scary dhosts again. Damn that Allison. Just kidding.

O so sad...Speaking of daisy's rocks I think Reed stole a little cuboodle of her rocks...
I was like; what the crap are all these rocks doing in the car? Josh where the crap did all these rocks come from?
Then I hear that he stole them....oooo so sad now that I know.
