Goldie's wedding was the day after Halloween. Luckily, we didn't have to be to the temple until about noon, so we didn't have to rush sugared-out, tired kids up too early, and we had plenty(ish) of time to get everyone ready.
Charlotte, one of the Young Women in our ward who I got to know well through planning girls' camp, came to do Goldie's hair for the wedding. (She was excited and nervous when I suggested she was good enough to be doing such a thing and offered to pay her. She did a great job.)
Goldie and Wyatt kept the sealing ceremony very intimate--just me and Mike, Abe and Kenya, Daisy and a senior missionary couple Wyatt had known in AR. But Wyatt's family and two of his friends (along with the rest of our kids) were waiting outside after, and I took a few pictures of everyone. (We passed my camera to his sister to get our family and then to a stranger to get one of all of us.)
Daisy made Goldie's bouquet and Wyatt's boutonnière.
Wyatt's family.
Wyatt's two friends that flew in for the wedding.
Everything was a little wild after the temple. Mike ran up to Bear Lake to try and get the cabin ready for them for their mini honeymoon, Goldie and Wyatt ran to Hobby Lobby to get a few last items we'd forgotten for the reception, Daisy ran back to the temple to try and find Goldie's wallet and phone, Abe and Kenya went off to pick up all the pulled pork and rolls I'd ordered, and I loaded the truck full of parts for the wooden arch, outdoor lights and stakes, centerpieces, platters of grapes and cheese, dozens of donuts, etc.
We couldn't get into the Mendon Station (where we were having Goldie's reception as well as a ring ceremony) until just an hour before everything was to start, so I was anxious about getting tables and chairs and food and decorations all set up in time, but once we got there, everyone just sprang into action.
Wyatt's friends got the place open and found all the lights for me. They then began setting up all of the chairs for the ring ceremony. Mike arrived before long and set up the arch and lights. Wyatt's sister and mom began setting up tablecloths and centerpieces, my older kids (including Kenya--who is such a hard worker it turns out!) helped everywhere they were needed. Penny managed to quickly get a playlist ready when it appeared Goldie's wasn't working. And perhaps one of the most amazing things of all was Mike's two aunts and a cousin showing up and just taking over every aspect of food arranging and readying and even refilling. I swear Aunt Leisa sent them as a little gift for me from heaven. I didn't even have to think about food or monitor the table the whole night.
Amy showed up and took pictures. When the evening ended, I looked around at all the mess to clean and things to load up, and assumed we'd have an hour or two of work ahead, but once again, everything was just magically done before I could even think to ask for help.
Wyatt's niece Allison and Starling were the two flower girls for the ring ceremony. Starling tossed petals in a very forceful way that was less scattering petals and more throwing petals at people with all of her might as if to say, "Petals for you! And petals for you!" It was quite darling.
Me with my brother Rob.
It's hard to believe these two have only been married for just over two months themselves.
My mom!
More of my family--plus Rob and Amber's foreign exchange student.
The amazing Aunt Sarah. (And you can spy Aunt Carol in yellow behind her. They were the best help.)
Wyatt's friend Shaheed did the ring ceremony. He did a good job.
Me with Shannon, her husband Jason and my niece Addie.
Waiting for the ceremony to start. Goldie decided to just invite family to the ring ceremony and reception. We had some great support with about 80 people. And the weather was perfect all day. It got a bit chilly for the ring ceremony, but that was relatively short and then we were back inside.
Hansie boy was the ring bearer.
It all came together. And I think we did right by our Goldie girl.
