Goldie's Birthday

Yesterday my little Goldums turned 4. It is tricky for her because she loves birthdays -- in fact she has honestly been moaning and groaning about how horribly far off her birthday sounded for at least four or five months. The trickiness is that she does not want to get older. I've mentioned this before, but you can't even talk about "when she grows up" with her unless you want a melt down. She asked me so sadly one day how she could still have birthdays but not get older. She's conceded that she will somewhat happily turn 5 and maybe 6, but that is it. I tell her she can be little for as long as she wants. Occasionally this pacifies her; other times she senses that there might be something larger than her tiny will taking place.

On an unrelated note, she finished her first course of swimming lessons today. She proudly brought me her certificate at the end which showed that she had passed pretty much nothing -- face in water (no), blow bubbles (no), etc., etc., but she certainly loved bouncing happily about in the class all the same. Abe and Daisy were eagerly reading off all of the things they'd passed in their classes. I was very proud of them both, but I think I was smiling almost more over my happy little failing swimmer.

Anyway, here is Ashton bringing her a birthday rose, making gingerbread houses, and enjoying her ring pop from Abe.

P.S. Here is Abe waiting for Goldie to start opening presents. His entire head was in but he popped up long enough to give me a small greeting.

She reminds me of my little Princess. Says the funniest cutest things. Jill is heading your way and was hoping to catch you, I emailed your her phone number but I don't know if you still have that email account since we communicate through blogging now!!! Anyway, I don't want to post it for everyone to see, and I don't have your number so let me know if you didn't get it. Have fun.

That Goldie! She is my favorite - oh! I shouldn't say that- but your kids are not my kids and so it seems okay to have a favorite. Hopefully by the time she is older she will have forgotten when she was younger and didn't want to get older. He He! Of course I think all of us are thinking we don't want to get older about now!

Liz, it is totally ok to have favorites. Megs knows that her little WIll is my favorite and I think your Ashton is my favorite. They don't get to be "favorite" in their own family unless they are an only child, so it seems nice for them to be able to have aunts, friends, etc. who secretly favor them! :)

Sar, I didn't hear anything from Jill. I'll email you my updated info.

She's just the cutest and I LOVE that she wants to be Peter Pan and refuses to get older. Maybe that's the ticket, you can tell her it's OK to get older but she never has to grow-up. OK, so maybe that's a crappy idea.

If you keep her in swimming for an extended period of time, she'll soon be passing things off left and right. It took Ana a good month to get used to anything and now that she's been swimming for three years, she's a total fish!

O yeah I love Abe. Was he waiting to be a surprise for Goldie or something? Or just being super cool?
