Cool Kid Words

The 4th of July is insane up here. Actually, I don't know if it is insane everywhere, but our neighborhood is plain nutso. There are giant fireworks blasting into the sky at all hours not only on the 4th, but on all the days surrounding it. A few nights before the 4th there were some extra loud ones going off fairly late. I asked the kids the next morning if they'd heard them. Goldie said, "I thought I heard popcorn . . . BIG popcorn." It did sound like "big" popcorn. Sometimes kids explain things or use words that are so perfect that I wonder why we don't all adopt these words into our vocabularies. Like when Goldie was little and she would ask me, "Will you foo it" when her food was too hot and she wanted me to blow on it, or when Daisy tells me something that happened "yesternight." I wish I could think of more examples because it does seem like they often say something that I think, "huh, that sounds about right."

I think this is your shortest blog yet. I read it on google reader and thought there had to be more that was just cut off. Where is the rest, I was thinking. I just enjoy your posts so much I want more! I'm glad Goldie thought it was big popcorn, that is such a happy analogy. I might be thinking "Was that big gun shots?" Now I have to go make dinner and foo on my kids hot food. :)

Kids do say the darndest things. After reading this post I tried so hard to think of the funny things my kids have said or called things and now I'm pulling a blank so I have nothing good to add to this conversation until I think of something.

And I'm glad your profile is safe!

Yes, I will keep you safe.

kids are great like that with their language. too bad we make them grow up
... we had TONS of "big popcorn" going off in our neighborhood too ... i think i will forever think of that when i hear fireworks. :)

Not surprisingly, Vegas is a town of fireworks all hours of the night prior to and after the 4th.

I also LOVE kid descriptions. They are among one of my favorite things. Instead of saying yesterday morning, Ana used to say "last-morning." Now she just uses big words and sounds like she's about 40 years old.
