It’s 11:30 p.m. I’ve just started the dishwasher and finished brushing my teeth and am now sitting on my bed — typing on my phone with one finger. When Abe arrived
home from work two hours ago he looked ... tired. He shrugged it off. He was fine. But there was an air of worn down about him. Everything has been so unknown, and, tonight, he seemed
pressed by the roller-coaster of leaving El Salvador, assuming he’d be reassigned the moment his two-week quarantine was up, things shifting and it looking like he might be here for months, getting a job and trying to establish life back home, and now, unexpectedly,
... news rushing in of friends getting their reassignment calls and being told departure dates of less than a week.
But now? At 11:30? He’s playing some type of card game with Daisy and Goldie. Mike is out there near them — telling them to get to bed (though lacking the tone resolute enough
for them to think he’s serious), and every other sentence any of them say comes floating into my room on a cloud of laughter.
I feel the deflation of earlier drifting away. And it seems to me that all of this will work out just fine.
In other news:
I overheard Jesse lament the following to Anders the other day (as they discussed something or other they were hoping to buy):
“Well the only way I have to earn money is having a birthday or losing teeth!”
He doesn’t have a lot of teeth left to lose so I hope he isn’t banking solely on that. ...
Also, earlier tonight I took Daisy and her good friend Sammy to the field below our house to take a few graduation photos.
And last of all? Tomorrow is May! May is pretty great. Most days are just how I like them — warm enough for kids to play (or for me to run) outside at any time of day without getting
too hot, but there is also a nice smattering of rainy days, a few surprisingly hot days, and a few surprisingly cold days all just to keep things interesting!

Gorgeous pictures of Daisy and her friend! I think I'd like a copy of the picture of Daisy (the 4th one from the bottom) for my picture frame of grandkids. Her hair is so beautiful!!! Wow! I love the first one too, but I need a head shot. Which is her favorite?
